Topo di campagna e topo di città

La storia del topo di città e del topo di campagna è un classico che ha visto molte versioni diverse fin dall'antichità. In questa edizione, magnificamente illustrata, l'autrice si discosta dalla morale tradizionale, che vede prevalere la tranquilla e morigerata vita di campagna, per offrire una storia in cui città e campagna appaiono come l'occasione per insegnare il rispetto per le scelte e i gusti degli altri. Il topo di città va a fare visita al topo di campagna. Ci sono panorami mozzafiato, e il cibo è veramente ottimo, ma i maiali puzzano, le stoppie bucano le zampe, e bisogna stare attenti alle mucche! Poi il topo di campagna ricambia la visita, ed il topo di città gli mostra orgoglioso le meraviglie del supermercato, la notte piena di luci, e la bellezza dell'alba sul fiume. Certo che per il topo di campagna tutte quel frastuono e quella confusione sono insopportabili...
Le illustrazioni sono pregevoli e spesso offrono un punto di vista interessante mostrando il mondo ad altezza-topo.

Millie's marvellous hat

Tornando a casa da scuola, un giorno Millie passa davanti alla vetrina di un negozio di cappelli. Entra per provare il cappello che le piace, ma sfortunatamente è troppo caro per lei. Il commesso allora le propone un altro cappello, che può avere qualsiasi forma, colore e dimensioni. Millie lo compra, esce dal negozio indossando il suo nuovo cappello, e subito questo si traforma seguendo i pensieri e le sensazioni della bambina. Ma il meraviglioso cappello di Millie ha un'altra straordinaria virtù: con il cappello in testa, Millie si accorge che tutte le persone ne indossano uno, e sono tutti diversi.
Il tocco moderno e fantasioso delle illustrazioni di Kitamura danno colore e sostanza ad una storia poetica che parla del valore delle nostre scelte, dei nostri desideri, e di quelli degli altri.

Today 774 million people cannot read or write. They are denied the joy and light of reading every day.

Education is a human right and a means to attaining other human rights that we declare to be universal.

Literacy education improves the health of children and families, spurs economic growth and advances equality.

For many children worldwide, quality education is the difference between life and death, between hope and despair and being able to make the most of one’s potential. This is our opportunity to give voice to the future.

By coming together and raising our voices on this day, we show the world’s children that we support their lives: that they have the right to read, to write and to share their stories to change the world.

Today I pledge my passion for quality education and my support for the cause of literacy. I encourage everyone to take part in this day and this cause.

As a representative of my community, I will continue to advocate for the causes most important to us and I encourage all of you to join me in the fight for our children and all children’s futures.

In observance of World Read Aloud Day, I invite you to take a moment to think about what you would miss most if you could not read or write.

It’s time for all of us to join the global literacy movement. Through our voices we can be free and be part of words changing worlds.

"The goal of World Read Aloud Day is to motivate children, teens, and adults worldwide to celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one person to another. The hope is to read aloud for a collective 774 million minutes in support of the 774 million people worldwide who cannot read or write and in turn lend all our voices to the Global Literacy Movement."

Comincio questo blog con una commento off-topic.
Il verme maggiore oggi è andato a scuola carico di cartelli per protestare contro l'abbattimento degli alberi nel giardino della scuola. I cartelli li aveva preparati lui, con scritto "Ridateci l'ossigeno", "Non abbandonate la natura, o lei vi distruggerà", e cose così.
Successo. L'abbattimento è stato revocato, i giardinieri (oggi in veste di nemici distruttori) sono stati fermati, la natura ha trionfato!
